ANLO-HOGBETSOTSO FESTIVAL
The people of the Anlo traditional area on every first Saturday of every November hold a grand durbar of chiefs and people to celebrate the Hogbetsotso festival at Anloga the traditional home of the Anlo-speaking Ewes.
This forms part of the magnificent week long Hogbetsotso festival which is celebrated to commemorate the exodus of the people of Anglo from the ancient walled city of Notsie in present day Northern Togo to their present settlement in the south Eastern Coastal Wetlands of present day Ghana.
The escape from the clay walled city which was under the rule of the wicked King Agorkoli was planned through frequent pouring of water on the wall by the slaves. On the day escape, the whole Anlo tribe walked backwards amidst drumming and dancing to “Husogo” and other war songs, through the broken walls to elude their enemies who might follow them.
