Historical Ghana
1) KETA-Fort Prinsentein,, Danish post established c.1714.
2) ADA-Fort Kongenstein, Portuguese trading place, 16th century.
3) PRAMPRAM-Fort Vernon, British post in 1740.
4) TESHIE-Fort Augusta Borg, Dutch post in 1730-40s.
5) ACCRA-Christiansburg castle, a Portuguese fortified house, 1500. Swedish lodge built in 1652. Rebuilt and used as a residence of the British governor of Gold Coast, 1887-1957. Residence of prime Minister of Ghana and renamed government house, Osu, 1957. Became the official residence of Dr. Nkrumah (president) 1960 and has since remained the seat of government. Frequently rebuilt with additions in recent years. Not open to the public.
6) ACCRA-Fort James, It is likely that there was a Portuguese lodge in the middle of the 16th century (probably by1576).
7) ACCRA-Fort Crevecoer (Ussher fort), Dutch post built in 1642.
8) SENYA BREKU-Fort Goedehoop (good hope), Dutch fort established 1667.
9) APAM-Fort Leydsaemheyt (Fort patience), built by the Dutch 1696-1702.
10) TANTUM- English post intermittently occupied from 1662. English fort built c. 1724.
11) AMOKU (near Ankaful, saltpond), French post built 1786.
12) KORMANTSE-Fort Amsterdam, Dutch trading post 1598. Dutch lodge built 1631, fort rebuilt by the English in 1645.
13) ANOMABU- Fort William, built by the Dutch 1640, restored 1954.
14) Fort Nassau- at mourie.
15) Fort McCarthy- Built by the British 1822.
16) Fort William-Built by the British 1819-20
17) Fort Victoria- Built by the English in 1702.
18) CAPE COAST- Cape Coast Castle, Built as a lodge by the Dutch in 1630 in an abandoned lodge built earlier by the Portuguese. Extensively rebuilt before 17587-80. Present day: cape coast castle museum.
19) ELMINA- watchtower, presumably Dutch but of unknown date, restored 1956.
20) ELMINA- Fort St. Jago (Conroadsburg), chapel built between 1555 and 1558 by the Portuguese. Turned into a lodge and watchtower. Restored 1956-60.
